STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
St. James warns in today’s second reading that those who
hoard their wealth and live only for themselves will be condemned. But in the Gospel, Jesus assures us that all
who give of themselves for His sake will be rewarded.

WEEKLY MEDITATION
26THSUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
"Getting
the Most out of Mass"
As Catholics, the Mass is the most common, most ancient, and
most frequented form of prayer that we practice. It is part of our
heritage and uniqueness, handed over to us on the very night before Jesus was
condemned to death.
The Mass can be powerful, moving our hearts and minds; but
without focused attention it can also become rote - reduced to a standard
ritual and formula that is devoid of energy and life. With over a billion
Roman Catholics on the planet, our desire and concentration during this sacred
gift of prayer can strengthen us and transform the world!
Here are some practical ways to infuse the Mass with
vitality:
BEFORE MASS:
1. Read the scriptures - twice!
2. Prepare for prayer with God and others
- think about people and needs you have and
be ready to offer them to the Lord
3. Lose the chewing gum - it doesn't belong at Mass
4. Take time to reflect on the blessings you have
think about the week - get ready to thank God!
5. If there is something really bothering you,
think about the possibility of going to confession
It can make a huge difference
in our hearts!
DURING MASS:
1. Greet people: outside, inside, at the pew
2. SING! Even if you can't, lip sync and pretend!
3. Prepare yourself to listen to the scriptures
- trust me, you will get a LOT more out of it!
- Preacher's note: especially the homily!!!
4. Holy Communion - think about what you do
- This is Jesus Christ - out of love - who feeds us!
5. Take the concerns and needs you have,
and visualize yourself setting them before the altar
- in other words, offer them up to Christ!
AFTER MASS:
1. Greet people as you go out
Catch up on neighbors and friends - talk and visit!
2. Parents: talk to your kids about the mass
Ask them about the homily and readings
3. Get involved! We need more ministers:
Ushers, Lectors, Communion Ministers, Cantors...
Please keep me in your prayers this week while I attend the National Convention
of Diocesan Vocation Directors convention in
Fr. Andrew
Question for Children: In what specific ways do you share
with the poor from what you have been given?
Question for Youth: Who are the people you have met who are against
you? Are there people who persecute you because of your faith? How do you treat
these people?
Question for Adults: In today's worldwide community, who are the rich
and what does God want of them?

RCIA
RCIA for the City of
What is
RCIA?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is the process for individuals to become Catholic and receive the
sacraments of initiation--Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Centered on
fostering a deep relationship with Jesus and the Church he founded, the RCIA
journey takes place through distinct stages over a period of time for the
participants to learn about the faith, to experience parish
community,
and to eventually commit to the life as an active member of the Catholic faith.
If you know someone unbaptized
or baptized in a non-Catholic Christian tradition, who is searching for a
fuller experience of faith, invite them to seek the perspective the Catholic
Church has to offer. In
