STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
In the second reading today, St. James has harsh words for
those who do not put their faith into action.
May we be such good stewards of God’s gifts to us that we can never be
accused of having “faith that does nothing in practice.”

WEEKLY MEDITATION
24THSUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
"Take
up Your Cross"
There comes a point in life where we have to move from day
dreaming into action. It happens when a kid no longer thinks about
playing piano but actually starts practicing lessons. Or when an athlete
stops imagining the game and starts the hard work of training. Or when the fantasy of a relationship is replaced with the steady
discipline and commitment of love.
It is at this point that we discover that practice, hard
work, discipline, and dedication are not easy! We can honestly say that
there are other things we would rather be doing; indeed, there are activities
that would be "fun" and not a burden to bear.
At this moment we make a fundamental change. Our music,
sport, or relationship has just delivered its cost. We now discover the
price we pay for the opportunity and blessing of our activity. With this
realization we find out that there is more than we knew. We have picked
up a cross.
Now let me be clear. This is
not to say that music, sports, or relationships (God help me!) are bad.
But there are moments in life when we know that these beautiful things will
demand from us more than we bargained for. They will test us and stretch us
- and change us.
Simply put, when we reach that moment when we "take up
our cross" we discover a new sense of value and worth. We begin to
know what is truly at stake; we find out what we are willing to give.
This awareness happened to the disciples at Caesarea
Philippi. Note this procession:
1. Jesus asks: Who am
I?
Peter responds you are the Christ!
2. Jesus speaks of his suffering.
Peter rebukes him, and is rebuked!
3. Jesus tells the disciples and the crowd:
"Take up the Cross, and follow
me."
It is at this moment that the disciples begin to realize the cost
of faith. At this moment they discover that the messiah will have to
suffer; and if they will follow him it is likely that they will suffer also.
The invitation to the disciples is true for us as
well. If we are to follow the Lord, then we will have a cross set before
us. Large or small, we will be asked to carry this cross through life -
discovering both the glory and cost of the faith that leads to eternal life.
Fr. Andrew
Question for Children: What do think it means for you to
follow in Jesus footsteps?
Question for Youth: Who do you say that Jesus is? Who is Jesus in
your life?
Question for Adults: What is the cross that you carry today? How do
you follow Jesus in the workplace and at home?

Dear Friends,
Recently we had a couple come in with their
precious 3 month old baby girl for our Earn While You Learn program. They have been diligent in doing lessons and homework
to become good parents and provide for their daughter. They have earned diapers and wipes along with
bigger items like a car seat and crib.
It is a blessing to be able to give to them generously in the name of
Jesus.
We couldn’t do it without you! We are honored that you thought of us and our
ministry in your recent Generations of Faith Festival. Thank you for your generous donation of
clothing, blankets, sheets, bath supplies, diapers and wipes,
food and toys. All of these items will
be given out to families in need in our community.
Thank
you for joining us in following our Lord’s instruction to love your neighbor as
yourself. We are honored by your
partnership in this ministry.
So my
dear brothers and sisters, be strong and
immovable. Always work enthusiastically
for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever
useless. 1 Cor. 15:58
Sincerely,
Joanne Martens,
Executive Director of
