NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS
TO HELP SERVE AT FUNERAL LUNCHEONS
We are in need of more
volunteers to work at funeral luncheons, including men if they are
available. We are in desperate need as
so many of the ladies have health problems and are no longer able to work. If you can help out please call Betty Leszcynski at 392-8444.
Thank you.
KRESS HALL
OUT WITH THE OLD – IN
WITH THE NEW!!
After many
years of use we are “retiring” old folding chairs and heavy 8 foot tables
and furnishing our entire Kress Hall with lightweight, durable and comfortable
tables and chairs.
By mid-June we will have in Kress Hall 12
round white tables and white chairs and 21 rectangular 8 foot tables in almond
(through the generosity of the Funeral
Luncheon Volunteers). We are not
currently able to provide almond chairs to match the tables without donations
from our generous parishioners. For our
many meetings and events we hold in Kress Hall, comfortable chairs would be a
blessing! Providing 8 chairs at each of
the almond tables will cost an additional $3600. We have one gift of $1000
toward the purchase of new chairs – thus, we need another $2600 to complete
Kress Hall with more comfortable and stable chairs. If you are interested in providing funds to
assist us in replacing these chairs, please contact Fr. Dan at the Church
Office 392-8511.
WEEKLY MEDITATION
12TH SUNDAY IN
ORDINARY TIME
“Fear no one.” (Matthew 10:26)
The message of not having fear is common in
some parts of the Hebrew Scriptures as well as in the Christian
Scriptures. When God called certain men
and women he assured them of his presence and told them not to be afraid of
anyone. Jeremiah hesitated when God called
him, but eventually he accepted the call to be a prophet. For nineteen chapters he brings harsh
messages from God to the rulers and to the people. They were not happy to hear this and
threatened Jeremiah and eventually punished him.
In chapter 20 Jeremiah is scourged and put
in stocks for a day. As he is released
he threatens the priest who put him there with dire consequences. But then Jeremiah complains to God that God
had fooled him when God called him. “You
duped me, O Lord, and I let myself be duped.”
(Chapter 20:7) We read some of
his worries and then his faith in God’s presence. However, the verses that follow immediately
after our passage are again complaints.
When Jesus called his first followers he
promised them many things including persecution. In chapter 10 of Matthew’s Gospel we read
(last Sunday) of the call of the apostles and the instructions for them to do
works similar to those of Jesus. What we
do not read are the verses between then and our Gospel today. There Jesus tells them that they are going to
be like sheep in the midst of wolves. By the time he gets done describing all
the problems, they must have wondered why they accepted the mission in the
first place. Maybe he knew what they
were thinking and assured them in the verses today of his presence and God’s
care.
Have you heard the call of God to be a
missionary? That is, one who is sent out
to proclaim the good news (the Gospel) to all you meet each day? Have you hesitated, followed, and then
complained about what happened like Jeremiah did? Or when you met the cross in your life, did
you run away like the Apostles? How have
you responded to the call to be a missionary?
Question
for children: What signs does God
send you to assure you of his love?
Questions
for Youth: Jesus tells us that he
will remember us to his Father if we proclaim him to others. How easy is it for you to talk about your
faith with your friends? How about your
family or people you don’t know very well?
Question
for Adults: What are the ways you
have learned to trust God’s hand in your life, ways in which you have replaced
fear with trust? Share these with your
family or friends.
“Blessed be
the Lord, who has heard the sound of my pleading?” (Psalm 28:6)
