FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED!!!!!
Our Cathedral Rectory is in a sad state of disrepair
and in dire need of some TLC. It needs
scraping, caulking, puttying, and painting and cleaning, carpets ripped up and
floors sanded and sealed.
Work needs to be done in two phases: inside and outside.
Target date for phase 1—inside: Saturday, June 14. We need about 6-8 reliable self-starting
people to clean, rip up carpets and assess floors. Equipment needs are: buckets, rags, cleaning
supplies, tools to rip up carpets, etc.
Tentative target date for phase 2—outside: Saturday,
August 16. We need 8-10 strong,
reliable, self-starting people to scrape, caulk, putty, prime, and paint the
outside of the rectory. We will need
ladders, scrapers, brushes, caulking guns, putty knives, and people not afraid
to crawl up ladders.
This is your chance to do some very meaningful
volunteer work for your Parish. WE NEED
YOU. If not you, who? If not now, when?
Call Sara Fouts at 392-6047
or Tom Henning at 392-2809 to help us out.

THANK YOU FROM THE
SALVATION ARMY
Dear
Friends:
Spring is here! There may be a little cold weather yet, but
in general the days will be warming up and the trees and flowers will be
blooming.
We thank you for your donation of 30 bags of
miscellaneous Food items for our Food Shelf.
It is greatly appreciated by all of us and those in need.
This is a difficult time of many that have
limited income and even more limited resources.
During spring, the needs remain the same, but little money comes
in. Your help meant more than you will
ever know.
“Pursuant to Internal Revenue Code
requirements for substantiation of charitable contributions, no gods or
services were provided in return of the Tax Deductible contribution”.
Again, we thank you. Have a great spring!
God bless
you!
Sincerely,
Major

WEEKLY MEDITATION
9TH SUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
“I call upon you, God,
for you will answer me; bend your ear and hear my prayer.” (Psalm 17:6)
Our Gospel passage for today is the close of
the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus has just
given his first followers a new way of life starting with the Beatitudes and in
the chapters that followed. Now he
reminds them that it will not be enough to just know the new rules, but they
must live them in their daily lives. He recognizes that his Church will have
both saints and sinners. All of them
will be challenged to listen to his words, reflect on them, and then put them
into practice in the world in which they live.
No one can be complacent even if they can do wonderful things.
So the demand of today’s readings is that
God has spoken, and we need to listen.
Moses summarizes much of what he had been saying to the people and in a
symbolic way tells them to make sure his words are a real part of their
lives. He reminds them that they do have
a choice: they can obey the commandments
of God or not, but they will also have to live with the consequences. The author of the letter to the Romans
reminds his people that God has revealed his plan of salvation in Jesus. Therefore they had to listen, make it a real
part of their lives, and live it completely.
It would not be easy for them in the world of that time.
Today, we must reflect on this same challenge. With the coming of Jesus, a real choice has
been given to us. We can follow him,
walk in his footsteps, to the cross and into the resurrection. Or we can choose to walk a different path
leading us away from him. The choice is
ours. He will never force us to follow
him. However, he will always place his
life before us and challenge us to say yes.
How have you answered his challenge?
Question for Children:
What teaching of Jesus do you find is most important for you to follow?
Questions for Youth:
Jesus teaches that we will be judged by our actions. Do we do what we say we believe? If someone were to watch you, would they know
that you are a follower of Jesus? What
can you do differently this week to show your faith in your actions more fully
to others?
Question for Adults:
Share how you have, in the words of the Gospel, built your own house on
rock. Or do you still need to do that?
“I have set before you
life and death; choose life.”
(Deuteronomy 30:19)
