THANK YOU
To All Chicken Dinner Workers,
Thank you to all the wonderful people who helped with
the chicken dinner! We had record
numbers to work on Saturday and Sunday.
Oprah would be proud! So thanks
for the outstanding help in making 2008’s Chicken Dinner a huge success. I could never mention everyone by name but
you will know it’s you. Some workers
came early and some stayed late and all worked beyond expectations. I can’t forget the Cathedral office staff,
Fr. Dan & Fr. Lee, and the Parish Council for many months of hard
work. Lastly, thanks to all the people
who came to eat and get take outs. You
all made me look very good.
Special
thanks to Lucille LaGesse for the many hours she puts
in assisting before and during the event.
But again this year I also have to thank Gene and Barb Bergren, and
God bless
you all and because you did such a good job we’ll want you again next year.
Thanks again!
Sandy Henning
PARISH COUNCIL
NOMINATIONS
The Parish Council Nominating Committee
found (4) parishioners to run for Parish Council. There are 4 present members who are leaving
the council. Because, we could not come up with another candidate – to have 5 for
an election, there will not be an election!
With the “advice and consent” of the Council, the Pastor will
automatically appoint these (4) candidates to the Cathedral Parish Council who
are Sara Fouts, William Goligoski,
Joe Mackiewicz and Jim Paine.
On behalf of the Parish, I wish to thank
sincerely the 4 members leaving the Council:
Gene Bergren, who has served as Council Chair
for a number of years, Lucille LaGesse, Diann Nelson and Tom Tracy.
Your leadership, your participation and support has been most
gratifying. You truly have built-up the
Cathedral Parish Family by your gifts of Time and Talent.
Fr. Dan

WEEKLY MEDITATION
PENTECOST
John 20:19-23
The opening prayer
of today’s Mass says: “Send your Spirit into our lives with the power of a
mighty wind, and by the flame of your wisdom open the horizons of our
minds”. Wind and Fire are the
images associated with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Fr. John Heagle in
his book, Life to the Full, says, “The wind and the sun. The breath and the fire. Every morning these sources of creativity
move across the land in a daily cycle that brings life and movement, growth and
harvest to our lives… St. Bonaventure
refers to the world as ‘the footprints
of God.’ The footprints leave a pattern. They create a shape.
They reveal a theme.”
So we have observed
Easter and Ascension: Christ crucified,
is Christ Risen, conquering the darkness of sin and death. The Risen Christ was then lifted-UP to be seated in glory at the right
hand of His Father. This happened that
the Holy Spirit/the Advocate might come DOWN
in fire and wind (the wisdom and power) to be with us always till the end of
time. The Holy Spirit, then, empowers us
to GO-out to all
the world to baptize and to teach all that I have commanded you!
The prophet Isaiah
(55:10-11) said this: “As the rain and snow come down from the heavens and do
not return without watering the earth, giving seed to the sower,
and bread for eating, so the word that goes from my mouth does not return to me
empty, without carrying out my will and succeeding in what it was sent to
do.” So, the Word became Flesh (Emmanuel
– God with us); Jesus said, “My work is to do the will of my Father”. In the
Jesus left the
world stage that the Holy Spirit could accomplish the work that was entrusted
by the Father and the Son – namely, to pour out upon us – “the power and
wisdom” of God. That we, the
Faith-filled Disciples, may become the “footprints” of Jesus – GO out in peace to love and serve the
Lord and one another! If we live in the
Spirit (Galatians 5), there is peace, patience, kindness, gentleness,
forgiveness, chastity, self control. In
other words, when we GO out we leave
a pattern, create a shape, reveal
a theme. We are challenged and charged to build God’s
Kingdom – my work is to live in the Spirit!
Then when my life is completed, like Jesus, I can say, “it is finished;
into your hands, Father, I commend my spirit.”
Fr. Dan
Question for Children: When have you heard your inner voice
or conscience guiding you to do what is right?
Question for Youth: On Pentecost, the apostles were able to speak in
a language that everyone could understand. As a young person, you have your own
way of communicating Jesus’ importance in your life. How will you make Jesus
more known to others in your own way this week?
Question for Adults: Share about times when you felt the power of the
Spirit, giving you the right words, giving you insight into a dilemma, or in
other ways.
