PARISH COUNCIL
NOMINATIONS
The Parish Council Nominating Committee
found (4) parishioners to run for Parish Council. There are 4 present members who are leaving
the council. Because, we could not come
up with another candidate – to have 5
for an election, there will not be an election!
With the “advice and consent” of the Council, the Pastor will
automatically appoint these (4) candidates to the Cathedral Parish Council.
On behalf of the Parish, I wish to thank
sincerely the 4 members leaving the Council:
Gene Bergren, who has served as Council Chair
for a number of years, Shari Bong, Lucille LaGesse
and Diann Nelson.
Your leadership, your participation and support has been most
gratifying. You truly have built-up the
Cathedral Parish Family by your gifts of Time and Talent.

WEEKLY MEDITATION
FEAST OF THE ASCENSION
“God mounts his throne to shouts
of joy.” (Psalm 47:6)
While the actual feast of the Ascension
usually takes place on a Thursday, most dioceses in the
In Matthew’s gospel that we use today there
is no ascension. It ends with the
promise that Jesus will be with us always.
Those who were with him at that moment needed to hear those words to
give them the strength and the patience to wait for the Spirit to come before
they went out to carry out the command of Jesus. Luke in the Acts of the Apostles tells us
that Jesus appeared to his followers for forty days after the
Resurrection. During this time he
continued to teach them “about the reign of God”. They were able during those days to become
more comfortable with this new presence of Jesus.
Yet, in the gospel passage we read that some
of those who came up to the mountain in
While we honor Jesus on this feast we must
also realize that there are implications for us as there were for the
disciples. We can’t sit around and think
about the past, or all the “what ifs” that might pop into our minds. The disciples were told to look to the future
when Jesus would return again. In the
meantime they were to “go”, “make disciples of all nations”, “baptize” and
“teach”. They were also to know of
Jesus’ continual presence in each of them.
That responsibility has been passed on to
us. It was an awesome task for the early
disciples in their world. It is also
just as awesome for us today. We know
that we cannot accomplish this without the presence of Jesus in the Spirit that
he has given us. Do not be afraid to
call on the power of that presence in order to be faithful to the command of
Jesus. With his grace, try to make your
life show the presence of Jesus to all you meet.
Question for Children:
Jesus helps us be brave when we need to be. When do you need to be brave?
Question for Youth:
Ascension: Jesus commanded his
disciples to go and make disciples of all people. How can you help to make disciples of your
peers?
Question for Adults:
How do you experience the divine power of Christ-among-us in your daily
life?
“Know that I am with you always,
until the end of the world.” (Matthew
28:20)
