STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
Jesus meets the need of each disciple. To the fearful in the upper room, He speaks
words of peace. To doubting Thomas, He
provides the tangible proof of His resurrection. What do I
need to become His disciple? What do I have to share that might meet someone
else’s need?

WEEKLY MEDITATION
SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER
“Blessed are those who have not
seen and have believed.” (John 20:29)
Was the Apostle, Thomas, from
Let’s not put Thomas down too much,
however. None of Jesus’ followers
understood what Jesus meant when he talked about being raised up on the third
day. When the crucifixion occurred we
know how they really reacted: Judas had
hanged himself; Peter had gone out and wept bitterly; and the other nine ran
away and hid. Only the women, and
possibly John, went to the cross. Yet,
when they came to the tomb on Sunday morning they expected to find the body of Jesus
there. They were caught by complete
surprise with the empty tomb. Some did
not recognize the risen Christ even when they did see him. All needed to see him and have some proof
that it was really the same Jesus they had known before. Some scripture scholars explain the forty
days between the resurrection and the ascension as a time when these early
followers gradually got to know the Risen Christ better. Only then, filled with the power of the Holy
Spirit, could they go out and tell others about their experiences. In the passage today from the Acts of the
Apostles we see how the early group spent time together listening to the
Apostles, sharing their experiences in common and praying together. They also put their faith into practice by
taking care of those in need. This is a
good picture of the evangelization all of us have been called to practice.
So, how do we come to know the Risen Christ
since we have never seen him? Those who
have been received into the Church at the Easter Vigil will continue to come
together for prayer and study as they grow in their knowledge and love of
Jesus. Will the rest of us continue our
practices of prayer, fasting and alms giving that we did during Lent? Will we recognize Christ as he comes to us in
our daily lives? How will we respond to
him? Now that Christ has forgiven us,
will we in turn forgive others?
Question for Children: Even though you can’t see him with your eyes,
how do you “see” Jesus in others?
Questions for Youth: Jesus gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit and
gave us the power to forgive sins. How
do you offer forgiveness to your friends and family? How do you see forgiveness for yourself?
Questions for Adults: When and how do you experience the “new
birth” which we are given in Christ?
When someone has forgiven you?
When you have forgiven others?
When you have celebrated the sacrament of reconciliation? At other times?
“This is the day the Lord has
made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.”
(Psalm 118:24)

RCIA
The adults who have been newly baptized and confirmed now enter the last
period of the RCIA process known as mystagogy. This is a time for deepening the Christian
experience, especially in appreciation for the sacramental life, for spiritual
growth, and for entering more fully into
the life and unity of the Catholic family. We as a parish community pledge to help them
grow and mature in the Christian life and to develop a genuine Catholic world
view.
The RCIA session this Sunday evening at Holy Assumption parish will focus
on recalling the Easter Vigil. The
session begins at
